celebrating some finishes!

Yesterday I got to join a whole heap of lovely quilters in a zoom meeting to celebrate the Chooksheds 8 th birthday organised by Chookyblue...lots of fun, a bit of stitching and quality time spent with like minded people is just great for the soul...thank you ladies.
I will be looking at a whole lot more blogs soon!
the hearts are what I was working on and managed to finish 2 with quite a few more to go!
saw these on FB tin can owls (need to use something different for the beak) but you get the idea...
they are usually made for decoration but I decided to add some succulents as I saw another lady do....
need more lids for eyes...and I'll try some other combos
my orchids are starting to pop up some spikes, exciting finding them all.
full moon last Friday was just amazing...photo is off my phone
some of my Spotlight haul from the $40 off coupon and loads of specials
and this is the top done, waiting on the backing and then it;s quilting time!

making a special quilt

 step 1
4 1/2" squares sewn together into triangles
step 2 cut all those triangles apart!
 step 3
press all those triangles open!
trim to 4" blocks
 step 4
sew pairs of triangles together
step 5
sew pairs of triangles into hourglass blocks
 step 6
cut hourglass blocks into strips and flip pieces around to create stars
Disappearing hourglass block turns into 6 1/2" star blocks...
stay tuned for the next step
all those blocks needed to be trimmed, this was just one little pile of trimmings
there were lots of others!

what have I been up to?

well still at work
(essential worker...pharmacy)
but rolling roster, so seem to have more time to do some of the things I want to do, funny isn't it? I haven't had any extra time off, just different to when I'm usually off...so taking advantage of that I have been busy doing this....
block 13 in 3 sizes
stuff the last one up several times...Jack and I were great friends
made some purchases from Kmart and potted them up
my red nerines have gone crazy
last blooms from the garden before the cold weather hits
Aldi is trap! one of the 2 I bought plus some other things I will show in coming days/weeks

one quarter of the next block....so many colour combos!
decisions decisions
and one that we all need to remember, especially when out and about shopping
to be kind to all staff in stores
to be kind to ourselves
and just
BE KIND
in general

in this crazy world of covid 19

well the only good thing about this craziness is I get to sew more as my hours at work have changed
block 12
#modablockheads3
this is the alternate block for block 3
this one is 12 1/2", but I think it's too big once they are all on the plan together,
but I'll see once its all done, it may become a cushion
redid block 9 into a 6 1/2" love how it turned out
alternate block 3 as a 6 1/2'
my maths was obviously a bit off, as it was too small, hence the borders
 block 9 12 1/2" and 6 1/2"
 block 3 12 1/2" and 6 1/2"

I'm also following along with a great stitchalong with some wonderful Aussie designers on FB

if you're on FB join the group, it's worldwide and the designs are lovely!
stay safe!

long first week at work

well this first week back has been to say the least different...almost like starting a new job with so many restrictions and changes to work practises...
I think this Covid19 can go and jump in the lake please!

anyway my modablocks3 are coming along nicely

windmills block 10 done in 2 sizes
and some happy photos around my garden today
pink crepe myrtle
 red nerines
 my succulent garden,
growing wildly

holidays are almost finished!!!

Well I'm coming to the end of my annual leave, tomorrow its back to the real world...
whatever that means at the moment...
I almost feel like I'm starting a new job with all of the changes that have happened in the last 3 weeks with this covid 19 virus stuff going on...

anyway this huge fallen tree has been annoying my for more years than I care to remember,
well 20 actually...this weekend it met its match...quite literally!
 2 days later its gone!
this bundle of cuteness joined Divas family this week...
meet Jack...
they are fostering him to see if their  other cat  Larry copes with the new addition
(this will be interesting as Larry has been an only cat for a long time, she had been abandoned at the vets by owners for a long time), so time will tell
sorry about the photo,
he is soooo quick its really hard to get a photo of him...
he's 9 weeks old
this is my last attempt at growing a waratah
it's looking very healthy and happy in this spot,
only one bud, but it's a beauty...fingers crossed!
leftover plums became a jar of chutney
and I'm almost caught up with the Moda Blockheads 3 blocks
below is Blooming Love in 4, 6 and 8inch sizes
this is Taos block 9 and I'm working on block 10
this one is 12 inches
all the blocks together so far
once I laid them out , Taos is 12 inches I'm going to remake into an 8 as I feel it doesn't fit the centre in the layout (but I might change my mind once they are all done)
ED decided to make some protein balls instead of buying them
and that way she doesn't need to go to the supermarket either...
they are very yummy
so I hope you got to do some sewing or whatever you love this weekend,
reality bites tomorrow!
See Ya!
